Posting Everywhere (Part 1)

"How to post to all of your Social Media sites, from one place."

In this first series of tutorials - Posting Everywhere - I'll be taking you through some handy ways to co-ordinate all of your social media portals; this will help you save time and extend your reach to new audiences. Not bad, eh?

Today, we'll be combining our Facebook page with our Twitter feed. Before doing this, we have a (reasonably easy) decision to make:

Do we want to originate our news feed in Twitter or Facebook?

Personally, I think it's easier to feed from Twitter to Facebook, because if you do it the other way round you'll be left with partial-posts in your Twitter feed. And no one likes reading incomplete Tweets.

Another advantage of doing this is that you can feed posts INTO Twitter from other social media sites, which will in turn feed to Facebook, creating a social media chain - this makes life a lot easier if you blog from Tumblr, Blogger, etc.

Basic Set-Up

Step 1 - Sign in to Facebook and Twitter

Step 2 - Go to: http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/

Step 3 - Click the "Sign in with Twitter" button

Step 4 - Click the "Allow" button; this will give Facebook and Twitter permission to connect your accounts:

Step 5 - When you see the following message at the top of the page, your accounts have been successfully connected. Hoorah!

Advanced Set-Up:

If you want to set feeds to go to a particular page, you'll need to do the following additional steps:

Step 6 - Select whether you want your posts to go to your profile, a page, or both:

In this case, my Twitter feed will only appear on the official CreativeGenius.co.uk Facebook page, and not on my personal profile.

And that's it! To change (or revoke) permissions at any time, just go back to: http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/

Next time, we'll be linking our Twitter account with a Tumblr blog. It will be epic.
